Public sector innovation

Innovation policy study has long concentrated solely on the private sector as the motor for forwarding innovation. This policy brief challenges this common conception and believes that the public sector should be able to reinvigorate its institutional framework and public services as the private sector might. The contemporary challenge in many European economies, calling for fiscal consolidations to tackle sovereign debt crises, adds weight to the claim for public sector innovation. This policy brief discusses how governments can foster innovation within the public sector in order to provide significant cost-reducing opportunities without any decline in service quality or accessibility.

This policy brief was prepared by ICEG European Center, Budapest
